This will tell you something about my day job. I now recognize “ums” in waveform. I don’t need to hear it, I only need to see this shape. This is the shape of an “um” or an “uh”.
I want to remove it from every ones speech patterns, including mine.
When I worked for Aboriginal Resource and Development Services I edited their radio programmes about health issues. Aboriginal people don’t typically say “um” or “uh”, they just stop talking and think in silence for a few seconds. Since Aboriginal people started mixing with Westerners they’ve started using filler sounds too, but now they say “ga”.
I want to test this out. Umm. Umm. Uhh.
